Francis Charles Flaherty was an officer in the United States Naval Reserve and a recipient of America's highest military decoration — the Medal of Honor. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for helping his crewmates escape the sinking USS Oklahoma (BB-37) at the expense of his own life, during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

Jimena Fernández de la Vega y Lombán was a Spanish doctor, geneticist, and professor, and one of the first women to graduate from a university in Galicia. She specialized in medical genetics and worked closely with the prominent physician Gregorio Marañón. Alongside her twin sister Elisa, she is remembered as a trailblazer who broke barriers for women in Spanish higher education and medicine.

Vsevolod Illarionovich Pudovkin was a Soviet film director, screenwriter and actor who developed influential theories of montage. Pudovkin's masterpieces are often contrasted with those of his contemporary Sergei Eisenstein; Eisenstein utilized montage to glorify the power of the masses, while Pudovkin preferred to concentrate on the courage and resilience of individuals. He was granted the title of People's Artist of the USSR in 1948.
